TERMINATION OF RESUSCITATIVE EFFORTS: 37.0

All Providers

  • Universal Patient Assessment Protocol
  • Adult Patients Only, pediatric arrest patients must be transferred to closest appropriate facility
  • If bystander CPR initiated, continue resuscitative efforts unles ONE of the following:
    • Rigor mortis
    • Decapitation
    • Decomposition
    • Dependent lividity
    • Traumatic cardiopulmonary arrest with injuries incompatible with livfe:
      • Massive blood loss
      • Displacement of brain tissue
      • Blunt head/chest trauma
    • Valid DNR Form
    • Physician authorization

      ON SCENE TERMINATION OF RESUSCITATION

      • Adult patient
      • Arrest NOT witness by EMS Personnel
      • No return of spontaneous circulation (ROSC)
      • No shock was delivered
        • If ALL criteria are present, consider termination of Resuscitation
        • if any criteria are missing, continue resuscitation and transport
      The following will be included in the patient care report
      • CPR was or as not being performedprior to EMS arrival
      • if CPR was being performed and the time it was discontinued
      • Patient had no respirations and no pulse
      • Additional criteria (from above) use to discontinue or withold CPR
